The Town of Margate

Rutland School of English is situated very near to the coast in Westbrook, just outside the popular tourist resort of Margate. Both beach and countryside are only a short walk from the School. There are also shops and a sports complex within a few hundred metres of the School.

Margate station, which is also very near the School, is on the direct line to London and the journey takes about 90 minutes. Buses, which pass the School, also go to London and to other cities, like Canterbury.

For inexpensive shopping, Margate is close enough to walk to or you can catch a bus or train to Ramsgate.

In summer, there are three lovely beaches nearby where you can sunbathe and swim

Rutland School of English

Rutland is the oldest School in the area, having been established in 1959, and Colin Spear and his family have been running it since 1978. This is the School to come to if you don't want to get lost in a crowd of other students. We will offer you personal attention, listen to your requests and do our best to provide the most suitable course and accommodation for your needs.

Accomodation

The accommodation we recommend is staying with an English host family because you can practise your English in friendly, familiar surroundings and experience the British way of life.

Rutland's host families all live within walking distance of the School so you will not need to use public transport to go to School. All our host families live in lovely houses and are used to offering our students warm and comfortable accommodation, usually in single rooms.

Your host family will give you three good meals a day, look after you well, invite you to join in with their activities and treat you as one of their family.
